LA LA Land

Last month I had the privilege of working on a very special project. By now you should all know I am very, well, particular about products. I love it when companies approach me to work with them promoting their line and educating people about proper use, and I value my relationships with manufacturers. I was thrilled when Britax contacted me and asked if I would help with the launch of their new Britax Baby Carrier. Aside from having meetings with producers from nationally-broadcast morning shows, editors from various parenting publications, and chatting with many bloggers here in the city I’ve befriended, I would be able to participate in a celebrity launch event in LA that also benefited Baby Buggy LA, the California branch of the charity started by Jessica Seinfeld to help families in need.

If I had issues with the product, I would have said “No.” After spending weeks testing the carrier prior to this invitation, I knew they had a great item on their hands. I accepted their offer (not to mention, I enjoy the Britax team), and prepped myself.

Not to mention Bill Horn and Scout Masterson were involved, and I’d get to see my ladies from MD Moms, so how could I pass up the opportunity?

The New York meetings went incredibly well and a lovely time was had. The people we met with had great feedback about the carrier, and it’s always nice to sit and chat for a bit.

Sadly, I do not get to LA that often. The last time I was out there was for a segment on KTLA and I was there and back within 28 hours. Yep. You read that correctly. Even though this was a fast trip as well, I was very happy to have a few days to relax while not working on the event.

After landing, checking into my hotel and dinner with the Britax ladies, I was wiped out so I actually went to bed. Getting old isn’t fun. The next day we toured the event space: one of the last putt-putt golf courses in LA. This event had a Pre-Fathers’ Day Mini Golf Open theme, which was pretty genius for a few reasons:

1.Who doesn’t like putt-putt?
2.Who can complain about playing putt-putt for charity?
3.Dads often get the shaft in the parenting world, so anything that’s got a dad theme I can usually get behind.

The next morning I arrived at the course and it had been transformed: a large tent had been set up with product displays, amazing food, and picnic tables for relaxing. A large Britax and Baby Buggy “step and repeat” wall had been erected for photos, and all of the holes on the course had large golf balls with baby faces on them. Super cute, and I wish I had yoinked one.

Seeing that this was the launch of the Baby Carrier, the B-Agile Stroller and the B-Safe Car Seat, the plan of attack was that the guests would be escorted to the tent and shown the various products. At each station they would sign that product’s poster, and for each signature Britax would donate a product to Baby Buggy LA. After seeing products and chatting, it was off to play golf!

Full Disclosure: I don’t really watch that much television, nor do I get starstruck; but we had quite the roster on our hands. Guests included Autumn Reeser from No Ordinary Family, Brandon Molale from Dodgeball, Dave Kushner from Velvet Revolver, Erik Palladino from ER, Ian Ziering of 90210 fame, Kevin Nealon from SNL and Weeds, Laila Ali, Larry Birkhead, Samantha Harris from Entertainment Tonight, Emily Deschanel of BONES, Ali Landry (who I seem to be running into constantly now that she’s a CPS Tech and getting very involved in the baby business), and many others. Everyone was quite lovely, and the atmosphere couldn’t have been more relaxed. Everyone brought their children, and there were even a few pregnant ladies in the bunch!!

Pictures were taken, relationships were made, products were demonstrated. More importantly, 25 B-Agile Strollers, 25 B-Safe Car Seats and 50 Baby Carriers were donated to needy families. You couldn’t ask for a better cause, and I am very proud to have been involved.

Feel free to browse the pics below, and check out BabyBuggy.Org to find out how you can help!!
